how to speed up your computer

PCs could be really annoying if they are slow. The causes for slowing down of PC are numerous. However there are some basic things one can do to improve the performance of PC.

Have enough disc space:
The first and most basic thing to do is have enough space in the C: drive or the drive you installed windows in. Make sure you have at least 30% of the drive free. Search for the programs you don’t use and remove them. It is also advised to remove programs which take lots of processing. Delete the temporary internet files, empty the recycle bin and recent documents. Clear browser’s history and other settings too. Removing such small things can give surprisingly good results.

Have simple and powerful anti-virus software:
Good antivirus software should be small in size but large in performance. That way your anti-virus doesn’t use much of your CPU’s power. I personally use avast 5 which I update very frequently. Read the reviews of the anti-virus before installing it.

Disk defragmentation:
Fragmentation is one of the most common phenomenon in the process of computer storage. In simple, we can say that fragmentation is the storing of the same file in two or more fragments. Because of this when you open a file, the computer has to search for all the fragments, join them and open it up. Obviously the end result is annoyance. There is a simple tool in windows to defragment files. In XP it is located in the start menu > all programs > Accessories > system tools. If you are using windows vista or 7, search in google.

Install ccleaner:
Ccleaner is a free and spyware free program that will remove unnecessary files in your PC. It is a very effective software that will definitely make your PC faster.
